Akihime Strawberry (章姫)

Akihime (あきひめ) is a strawberry variety bred by Mr. Akihiro Hagiwara in Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan, through a cross between Kunō Wase and Nyoho. It was officially registered as a cultivar in 1992 (Heisei 4). The name “Aki” (章) is derived from the breeder’s given name. Incidentally, Mr. Hagiwara is also the breeder of Kunō Wase, which is the maternal parent of Akihime.

Akihime is characterized by its elongated conical fruit shape. While most strawberries have a wider, shorter conical form, Akihime stands out with its distinctly long, slender cone shape. The skin is a deep orange-red color, and the flesh is relatively soft with a smooth, pleasant mouthfeel. It is very juicy and has low acidity, allowing its pronounced sweetness to be enjoyed fully.
